The Hermit represents someone withdrawing from the activities of the outside world to do more inner work. It represents privacy, prudence, thoughtfulness, attention to detail – a methodical approach to a spiritual journey. A guide, teacher or sage possessing a virtue and living by one’s values. This calls for discretion. This is someone who’s extremely trustworthy and  can represent a deep need to be involved in profound relationships or to pursue a lofty goal.

This represents someone who has a deep understanding of what is truly important in life – again a sage, a teacher, a leader.

The best course of action with the Hermit tarot

Take time for yourself, you might need more privacy at this time. Take that if you can. Engage in deep meaningful relationships or step back and give yourself some solitude and quiet and peace. Understand you might be a leader for others, a guide, a coach, counselor that you are lighting the way for others. Withdraw from unsatisfying, superficial activities, commit to a greater purpose, especially those which represent your highest ideals. Lead others, but don’t wait for others. Be patient be honest, define your values and live by them, be sparing of words actions will speak much louder than words at this time. But when asked, offer your wives advice and counsel. If needing advice seek, out the wisest person you know, and heed their advice. If others are coming to you seriously engage with them to help them on their Journey.

The Hermit reversed might just mean that it’s time to get back out into the world, time to engage if you’ve been withdrawing – get back out into the mix. This can also represent feelings of isolation and loneliness. This can mean you’re refusing to listen to good advice and counsel.

It can mean you are engaging in frivolous activities as a way of avoiding something deeper. This can be too much withdrawal. This can indicate obsessing over the past as opposed to looking towards the future. A lack of needed expertise and this can also represent a leader with questionable tactics or methodology. And if you are leader double check that everything that you’re doing and saying and communicating is ethical – do a self-check.

Engage more, get out into the world more – don’t look to the past, look to the future. Open up, get out of the house or office and reconnect with the world. Examine your assumptions and values, consider other points of view. This may be a call or suggestion to look to the people that are your following and if you are in a leadership position there might be a calling for you to step down at this time or withdraw or step back just a bit.
